Abstract
Proverbs are a vital part of Yorùbá and French cultures, conveying wisdom, values, and social norms. This qualitative research compares and contrasts the morphological and syntactical structures of selected Yorùbá and French proverbs, highlighting their similarities and differences. The study collates and critically analyzes selected Yorùbá Proverbs and French Proverbs to examine their morphological composition, sentential structures, and semantic and thematic significance. A total of 15 Yoruba proverbs and 10 French proverbs were selected for this study. The study is anchored on Head-driven Theory. The findings of the study affirm that, despite linguistic differences, both languages employ proverbs to convey universal themes and messages. The analysis reveals the significance of morphological and syntactic structures in conveying meaning and significance. By bridging the gap in existing literature, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of Yorùbá and French proverbs, fostering cross-cultural appreciation, highlighting their cultural and linguistic significance. The findings demonstrate the importance of proverbs in shaping language, thought, and society.
