Abstract
This study investigates the patterns of behavioral disorders among secondary school students in Katsina Metropolis, aiming to elucidate the prevalence, types, and underlying factors contributing to these disorders. Using a mixed-methods approach, quantitative data were collected through standardized questionnaires administered to a representative sample of students, while qualitative insights were gathered through focus group discussions with students, teachers, and counselors. The findings reveal a significant incidence of behavioral disorders, including anxiety, depression, and conduct disorders, often influenced by socio-economic factors, familial structures, and peer relationships. The implications of these findings highlight the urgent need for effective counseling interventions tailored to the unique contexts of students in Katsina. Recommendations for school-based mental health programs and preventive measures are proposed to foster emotional resilience and improve academic performance among affected students. This research contributes to the understanding of adolescent mental health in Nigeria and underscores the critical role of counseling in mitigating behavioral issues in educational settings.
