Abstract: Films are usually based on social
events especially Yoruba-language films, as research has shown. The question
then arises: in what ways do Yoruba films influence people’s understanding and
awareness of the values and ideas they should uphold in relation to social
living and human relationships. This paper attempts to examine the content of
two Yoruba films to show how filmmakers use their works to bring about
reformation in individuals and in society as a whole. The study analyzed the
content of these films to understand the educational methods of Yoruba-language
filmmakers. Likewise, interviews were conducted with members of the public who
watch Yoruba films. Films should be able to address various social problems
since people enjoy watching them for entertainment, learning, insight, and
guidance. Filmmakers must continually produce films that promote progress,
understanding, and comfort among their audiences. This paper concludes that the
themes and educational contents of Yoruba films are very important and should
always align with the guidelines set by film regulatory bodies in the country
so that the general public can gain proper understanding and live a more
comfortable life.
